Met Éireann alerts public to difficult travelling conditions as wind warning is issued for Cork

Met Éireann has alerted the public to potentially difficult travelling conditions, with a status yellow wind warning due to come into effect for Cork at midnight.

The warning, which has also been issued for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford, is expected to remain in place until 8pm tomorrow.

According to the national weather forecaster, northwest winds will be “very strong at times”.

Potential impacts of the adverse conditions will include difficult driving and cycling conditions.

The public is also advised that loose objects may become displaced.

A separate status yellow wind warning has also been issued for Clare, Kerry, Donegal and Connacht, where people have also been advised to expect difficult travelling conditions, debris and the displacement of loose objects, in addition to wave overtopping from midnight until 8pm tomorrow.

The latest forecast for Munster states that west to northwest winds tonight will increase to near gale force and gusty, reaching gale force in some western coastal parts.

It will be mostly cloudy, with some scattered outbreaks of mostly light rain and drizzle.

Tomorrow, Thursday, will be “a very windy day with strong to near gale force and gusty west to northwest winds, with gales in some coastal parts”.

It will be mostly cloudy with a little rain and drizzle at times. 

Tomorrow will be another relatively mild day, with highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees.
