Dylan and Korey aim for Number 1 with Christmas song

A pair of Cork singers are putting the finishing touches to a Christmas single they hope will take the charts by storm.

Between them, Whitechurch native Dylan Brickley and Farranree man Korey Power have had five number one hits on the iTunes charts over the past three years, and together their hopes are high for a Christmas hit.

“It’s going to be called ‘Last Christmas’, and it’s a sad song with a very positive message,” Mr Brickley told The Echo as he and Mr Power completed the track ahead of its December 15 launch.

“It’s a song about imagining this was your last Christmas, and telling all of your loved ones that you care, and doing all the happy things we associate with Christmas. There’s a message in it too, remembering that while Christmas is a happy time, it can be a sad time too, especially if people have lost friends or family.

“It’s a reminder too that you are not alone at what can often be a lonely time of year,” he said.

The two solo artists cut their teeth busking on the streets of Cork, and Mr Brickley has more than a decade’s experience, while Mr Power started three years ago.

Mr Brickley’s songs ‘Close To You’ and ‘Sometimes’ both went to Number One, while Mr Power’s topped the iTunes charts with his songs ‘Shadows’, ‘Street Lights’ and ‘Give Me A Reason’.

In September the two Cork musicians played to their largest audience of the year, before a thousand-strong crowd at the 3 For All music stage at Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Co Laois.

On December 23, the two men will lead the Christmas Busking Fundraiser for Cork Penny Dinners, starting at 10am outside Brown Thomas and joined as the day goes on by special guests.

Last year they raised almost €6,000 for Penny Dinners, and this year they hope to better that figure.
