AN IMPROMPTU school reunion has led to the production of a popular new single showcasing everything that’s great about Cork city.

The proud anthem ‘This is Cork’ was co-written and performed by Ger O’Leary and Brian Tambling- who are behind the musical duo Dark and Lively. Both 37 years old, the pair met while they were still pupils in Kilcredan National School, Ladysbridge. The friends are delighted with the positive feedback from their latest single which has amassed almost 1500 views on YouTube.

It comes less than a year after they met by chance at their local chipper Five Roads after years apart.

Ger explained that Brian had spent years travelling while he settled in his native Ladysbridge.

Now that he’s back, they are glad to finally have the chance to perform together.

“Brian was heavily involved in music and I was more into GAA so we drifted apart a little in secondary school. I always had this sense of Déjà vu. When we met in the chipper it was like everything was meant to be. I could always see us playing music together I didn’t even know he was coming back to Cork and now we are a four-minute drive from both our homes”.

He described their new video for the single which was filmed by local production company Deep Red Productions.

“It’s a country lad’s experience of living and socialising in the city”, Ger explained.

“That was the main inspiration for me to write. The reaction has been great. We have almost 1500 views on YouTube so and we’re really happy with the feedback so far. The song is really catchy and it’s an earworm so people are responding really well to it”.

The Cork man said that fellow musician John Spillane was also a source of inspiration to him.

“I’ve always been a massive fan of John Spillane and am listening to him for as long as I can remember. We’re going to be supporting him in De Barras Pub on Thursday, December 7 so that’s something we’re very excited about. We’ve already supported the Frank and Walters and Paddy Casey so it was really great to have those opportunities”.
