It looks like there will be no let up from the cold weather over the coming days, following overnight temperatures on Thursday and into Friday that fell as low as -3 degrees in parts of Cork city and county.
The cold snap is set to continue over the weekend, with Met Éireann putting another status yellow low temperature/ice warning in place for the country from Friday at 5pm through to noon on Sunday.
The forecast for the Munster region is predicting that temperatures could plummet as low as -4 degrees on Friday night.
Met Éireann has said this could result in slippery underfoot conditions and hazardous travelling conditions in addition to what they described as “animal welfare issues.”
The forecaster has said the Arctic airflow is set to continue over the weekend and into the early next week.
They also warned of dense fog forming in places, with patches of freezing fog.
Moving forward to Monday, Met Éireann has said current indications suggest wet and windy weather will spread over the south and east of the country, with the possibility of scatted falls of sleet.
