IT has emerged the popular Mitchelstown Indiependence Music and Arts Festival will not be taking place next year.

Event organisers posted on social media platforms this afternoon that the festival, which attracts thousands of music fans to the north Cork town each August bank-holiday weekend, will be taking a break in 2024.

'Indie' has attracted some leading Irish and international acts to its stages over the years, including The Coronas, Two Door Cinema Club, Fatboy Slim and Public Enemy.

The social media post said it was “time for a little break”.

We started in 2006 in the town square, since then we have seen it all, rain, sunshine and hurricanes. We’re have some wonderful times and some really difficult ones and now we need a little break to recoup and relook and hopefully come back stronger,” read the post.

It confirmed Indiependence will be taking a break in 2024 “with a view to seeing you again in 2025”.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us over the years, we are more grateful than words can explain. Indie,” concluded the post.
