Cork city street declared safe as Gardaí deem bomb threat a hoax

A security alert in Cork City at Washington St.

Washington Street in Cork city and the immediate area surrounding was closed off earlier today due to a security alert.

Emergency services attended the scene but were later stood down.

It is understood a local radio station received a number of calls alleging devices were placed at a number of buildings in the immediate area.

The threat of these bombs in the area was later deemed a hoax.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are aware of a number of security alerts at several locations in Cork City this morning, Friday 24th November 2023.

"Following further enquiries An Garda Síochána is satisfied that all of the alerts have been deemed as hoax and the areas have been declared safe."
