The Farranree Community Centre has been reopened after refurbishments, thanks to €200,000 in funds from Pobal, Cork City Council and the HSE.

At an event attended by Cork TD and Minister of State Jerry Buttimer, Seán Coleman, who project managed the works, was commended, as well as chairperson Kenneth Collins, supported by the board of directors who sourced the relevant funding and administered the refurbishment.

The community association also thanked all the groups, clubs and societies that help to finance the day to day running of the centre through their use of the facilities, and all the members of the community who attend the activities.

Community Employment staff were also thanked for keeping the centre open and running 365 days a year to provide a seven-days-a-week Meals on Wheels service and a safe place for people to gather and enjoy themselves.

A special mention was also given to Vera O’Sullivan, who has been an active executive member of the association in many different roles for more than 50 years, including chairperson when the centre was last refurbished in 1999, and secretary during the current upgrades.
