Knocknaheeny girl set for Late Late Toy Show appearance

Sophia McNamara, aged 11, from Knocknaheeny will be involved in this year's Late Late Toy Show.

AN 11-year-old girl from Knocknaheeny has spoken excitedly about her appearance on this year’s Late Late Toy Show.

Sophia McNamara is involved in the 2023 edition of the highly-anticipated annual programme, which takes place this coming Friday.

And while the all-important theme of the Toy Show is under wraps, as are the specific details of Sophia’s involvement, she told The Echo she is “excited” and “not nervous at all” to feature.

The St Mary's on the Hill NS pupil received the exciting news a number of weeks ago after two successful auditions.

“I heard back a couple of weeks ago, we got a call. I heard my mam say ‘yeah, she’s on it’ and I heard ‘Toy Show’ – I just started jumping and running around,” she said.

The talented youngster said her friends were delighted to hear the exciting news, with “amazing”, “good luck” and “I can’t wait to watch you on it” among the reactions.

Her mother Michelle said Sophia’s upcoming appearance on The Late Late Toy Show is a dream come true for her daughter.

“I’m extremely proud. She’s just so confident in everything she does.

“She loves performing for people and she loves just getting out there and interacting with everyone. She’s so outgoing, so this is her dream,” she said.

“I’m ecstatic and I cannot wait to see. It’s brilliant as well that she’s representing Cork.”

The 2023 Toy Show will be Patrick Kielty’s first since taking over as Late Late Show host in September.

“Many moons ago in Dundrum, Co Down this cheeky monkey had a Christmas jumper, a John Denver haircut and a dream.

“But never in his wildest did he think that one day, he’d host The Late Late Toy Show,” he said, speaking ahead of the programme.

The Late Late Toy Show airs Friday, November 24, at 9:35pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
