FOCUS Ireland is urging people to give homelessness the cold shoulder with an icy dip to raise funds for the charity.

The “Take The Plunge for Focus Ireland,” event is set to take place in locations across Ireland on Saturday, November 25.

Participants are invited to embrace the cold seas at various picturesque locations including Garryvoe Beach in East Cork.

They can take a swim or just a quick dip depending on their preference.

The event will be supported by Cully & Sully who are dishing out hot soup for all participants on the day.

Lorraine Toner, Head of National Community Fundraising at Focus Ireland, spoke of her excitement ahead of the fundraiser.

“This event is not just about taking a plunge into the sea, it’s about taking a plunge for change,” she said.

“It’s a call to action to end homelessness and make a real impact on the lives of those in need.

“By participating in ‘Take The Plunge for Focus Ireland,’ event you’re not only embracing the cold waters but also the opportunity to create a brighter future for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Ireland.

“Together, we can turn the tide on homelessness and bring warmth and hope to those in need.”

She highlighted the importance of such fundraisers adding: “Focus Ireland believes that everyone has the fundamental right to a place they can call home.

“Our mission is fuelled by the unwavering belief that homelessness is a societal failure that victimises ordinary people, stripping them of their potential.

“Shockingly, there are currently 12,827 individuals, including 3,904 children, experiencing homelessness across Ireland.

“We are resolutely committed to ending this crisis, and we invite you to join us in our efforts.”
