Book of evidence served on man, 30, accused of murdering 68-year-old in Cork city

The 30-year-old Cork man accused of murdering a 68-year-old man at The Glen last March was sent forward for trial by judge and jury today.

Detective Sergeant Kieran O’Sullivan served a book of evidence on Aaron Wolfe of Glentrasna Court, The Glen, Cork, via his solicitor, Frank Buttimer at Cork District Court.

Mr Wolfe appeared by video link from prison on the charge of murdering Florence (Florrie) O’Sullivan on March 11 2023 at 15 Glentrasna Court, The Glen, Cork, contrary to Common Law.

Sergeant Gearóid Davis applied to have the case sent forward for trial at the Central Criminal Court on a date to be set by that court.

Judge Joanne Carroll gave the accused the alibi warning, which effectively requires certain notifications to be given by the defence to the state if an alibi witness is going to be called.

An adjournment was sought to allow time for preparation and service of a book of evidence.

The background to the matter is that Florence O’Sullivan died at Cork University Hospital on April 6. He had been hospitalised after the alleged incident at Glentrasna Court, The Glen, Cork city, on March 11.

It was previously reported that following a number of calls to the emergency services the injured party was removed from the scene by ambulance and the accused was arrested at the scene of the incident a short time later. An incident room was set up at Watercourse Road garda station. A large volume of CCTV has been harvested, a number of witness statements taken and forensic evidence obtained. Following the death a post mortem took place and confirmed the violent circumstances.

The late Mr O’Sullivan, who was originally from Adrigole, lived for many years in a flat in Cork city centre. More recently, he had been living in Carrigaline.
