Rain warning issued for Cork as council continues assessment of road network after floods 

Another rain warning has been issued for Cork with Met Éireann warning that localised flooding is possible.

The yellow rain warning, which comes into effect tomorrow evening, covers all of Munster and Connacht. 

The forecaster says that rain will be heavy at times with the chance of thunder.

Possible impacts include localised flooding and difficult travel conditions, it said. 

The warning comes into effect at 6pm on Sunday and will remain in place until 4am on Tuesday morning. 

The latest warning comes as council crews continue their response to this week's flooding which came as Cork was under an orange rain warning. 

Cork County Council said it continues to monitor the levels of the Owenacurra River in Midleton, which have abated but remain high. 

Council staff will be on site at the Midleton Coordination Centre throughout the weekend, in advance of forecasted weather conditions.

The Council will continue to inspect and undertake emergency repair works on the roads and bridges most severely impacted across the region, while also commencing the considerable clean-up programme that lies ahead.

It said that a number of rolling road closures remain in operation throughout the weekend. 

In an update this morning it said that the N72 Park Road Mallow has reopened.

In the city, the Banduff Road is closed due to flooding.
