THE daughter of sporting legend Peter O’Mahony had her own team behind her this week as schoolmates performed an adorable rendition of Ireland’s Call.

First and second-class pupils at Scoil Bhríde Eglantine were accompanied by their teachers Rosie O’Shea and Sharon Ryan who joined them in wishing the team well.

It comes almost five months after Peter O’Mahony, whose daughter Indie attends the school, visited pupils with the URC trophy. His younger son Theo also joined him for the memorable occasion.

Cork sporting legend Peter O’Mahony will make his 100th appearance for Ireland in Saturday’s last World Cup group game against Scotland, kicking off at 8pm.

If successful, he will progress to a quarter-final against France or New Zealand.

Pupils at Scoil Bhríde Eglantine marked the occasion by donning the Ireland kit and belting out Ireland’s Call.

They hope that the performance, which was captured on video, will lift the spirits of Peter O’Mahony who have undoubtedly endured a nail biting few days.

Teacher Rosie O’Shea spoke about the inspiration behind their performance.

“A lot of us are involved in rugby and we just love the song. It was for this reason that Sharon and I decided to put it together. There has been a great buzz and so much excitement around the school the last few days”.

Many of the children are preparing to watch the game with their families.

“Some of the parents are going to the match and a lot of the kids will be watching it at home. It’s all very exciting”.

She said the kids were not fazed by Peter O’Mahony’s presence.

“I think it’s more the adults who get starstruck”, she laughed.

“The younger ones mostly take it for granted. You are explaining to them how massive it is. I think it’s only when they see him on the television that it hits them. They’ll often say 'Oh my God I saw him at school'. They are really sweet like that”.
