Eight units of fire service battling major Cork city blaze into the night

Cork City Fire Service posted an update on their progress in dealing with the large fire at a recycling centre on Cork's northside.

Firefighters are using a foam cannon trailer to combat the flames at the National Recycling Centre, in Churchfield.

A Fire Service operator said the fire was a "dynamic situation" and the emergency services would be on scene for some hours.


Eight units of the fire service are currently in attendance, five from Anglesea Street, one from Ballyvolane, one from Ballincollig, a water tanker from Midleton and a Hydraulic platform.

Cork City Fire Service have asked people to stay away as they battle a large fire at a recycling centre on the northside of the city.

Posting on Facebook, the fire service said: "Avoid the area as crews battle the blaze, keep windows and doors in the area closed."

The warning comes as social media has lit up with people tweeting and posting they can smell the fumes from around the area.

Six units of Cork City Fire Service are currently battling a blaze at a recycling centre on the Northside of the city.

A fire was reported at National Recycling Limited, on John F. Connolly Road, Churchfield to Cork City Fire Service at 7.45pm on Friday evening.

Two units from Cork City, along with two units from Ballyvolane and one unit from Ballincollig are currently at the scene, along with a water tanker.

There are at least 19 firefighters currently battling the blaze.
