A STATUE of Our Lady of Fatima, blessed by Pope Francis, arrived in the Diocese of Cork and Ross for a special crowning by Bishop John Buckley.

The statue is currently on an All-Ireland Pilgrimage, attracting large crowds as it moves from county to county.

It is part of the Catholic Church's celebration of 100 years since the Virgin Mary appeared to three children in the Portugese village of Fatima.

The three-foot-high statue started its journey in Armagh and has been taken all across Ireland for blessings and prayers.

It is one of six statues blessed by Pope Francis as part of a global pilgrimage of Our Lady of Fatima to six continents.

The global pilgrimage is to appeal for prayer and reparation for world peace and to promote the sanctity of family life in our world.

Large crowds from Cork city and further afield gathered in The Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne, to welcome the statue of Our Lady of Fatima.
