PLANNING permission has been granted for more than 100 new homes on the grounds of the former Ursuline convent in Blackrock.

Pierse Developments (Blackrock), in receivership, lodged plans last December for 117 new homes to be built on grounds to the west and south of the convent adjacent to the old Blackrock to Passage West railway line.

The planned development would be accessed by existing entrances at Convent Road, Skehard Road and Blackrock Road.

During the summer planners in City Hall asked developers to increase the density of the estate which they complied with, replacing 18 planned homes with 42 duplexes and apartments.

Planning permission was this week granted for the new development.

The Ursuline Convent building has already been converted into permanent homes made up of 27 apartments.
