Horgan’s Quay entrance to Kent Station ready to open

The new entrance to Kent Railway Station will open to passengers in the coming days.

The development opens the station onto Horgan's Quay via a new internal roadway and aims to better connect the station with the city centre particularly for pedestrians and public transport users.

Rail passengers will be able to enter the new entrance, taking a lift or stairs below ground to a new concourse before travelling through a new subway that connects up with the existing subway underneath the main station railway tracks.

The existing entrance, car park, set down area and taxi rank will continue to be used but passengers will have the option of exiting onto the Lower Glanmire Road or Horgan’s Quay.

The development includes a new roadway that links Ship Street to Horgan’s Quay. The road will only be accessible by public bus; however, a new public car park will be accessible from Horgan’s Quay.

A spokesperson for Irish Rail confirmed to the Evening Echo that the new entrance will open to passengers early next week.

The entire area around Kent Station is set for significant redevelopment over the coming years.

City Hall planners are currently assessing a planning application for a major new hotel, apartment and office development that will be located on the current Kent Station overflow carpark adjacent to the new entrance.
