Murdered Macroom man named locally as Timmy Foley

The 44-year-old who was fatally stabbed overnight has been named locally as Timmy Foley. 

A murder investigation is underway in Macroom after Gardaí were called to Dan Corkery Place at 1.50am this morning.

A man and woman who were also at the house were taken to hospital following the incident with non-life threatening injuries.

The injured man is understood to be Timmy's brother, Jason.

Local Gardaí and paramedics were called to the house on Dan Corkery Place in the centre of the town close to the local Dunnes Stores.

It is understood that there had been an altercation in the house which spilt out onto the street in the small housing estate.

Emergency services found the deceased man on arrival.

Local TD Aindrias Moynihan said the community is in shock this morning.

“It's not a common occurrence in Macroom and this comes as a shock. To hear about something like that on our doorstep is very sad."

The scene has been preserved and the Garda Technical Bureau has been notified.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Macroom Garda Station 026 20590.
