Spectacular cars on show as retro road trip rolls into Kinsale

CAR lovers got an extra special treat in Kinsale yesterday when the Cannonball retro road trip roared into town.
Locals and visitors lined the streets to get a look at the classic and vintage cars, which were embarking on a road trip around Munster.

The classic run started in Kinsale yesterday and takes in Healy Pass, Kenmare, Molls Gap, Inch Beach, Dingle, Slea Head, Conor Pass, Tralee and finishes at Bunratty Castle today.

“The all-new Retro Cannonball Classic Run featuring cars from the ’60s,70s, 80s and early 90s takes us back to our roots when the mad-cap Cannonball Movie was made,” said Cannonball founder Alan Bannon
“We are going all out retro and welcoming cars from this golden era to take in stunning drives and world-famous rally routes. Classic runs are a longstanding tradition steeped in nostalgia and pop culture and we want to add our own Cannonball twist to make this a truly unforgettable experience for both drivers and spectators.

Mr Bannon said classic cars are about the experience, style, exclusivity and craftsmanship, all of which are universal and timeless.
“Classic cars not only appeal to car lovers, but also to lovers of engineering, design, art and history,” he said.

“Add in the spectacle, heady excitement and adrenalin-fuelled festival atmosphere that Cannonball is renowned for and the traditional classic run goes up a gear.

“This is a road-trip planned with adventure, luxury, breath-taking scenery, unforgettable experiences and spontaneity in mind,” he added.
