A Cork woman was busy giving her oven a good clean last Sunday when she found out she had won a Lotto prize worth €209,809.
The Cork native revealed she was cleaning her oven on Sunday morning when she heard her local shop, JJ O'Driscoll's Superstore on the Ballinlough Road, had sold a winning Lotto ticket.
She stopped what she was doing, made her way to the shop and found out she was the person who had bought the winning ticket.
There were wild celebrations in the National Lottery winners’ room today as the Cork woman celebrated the Lotto Match 5 + Bonus prize with her family.
“My head was literally stuck in an oven - I was giving my oven a good clean on the Sunday morning when one of my housemates text me to tell me that a winning Lotto ticket was sold in the local shop,” she explained.
“As soon as I saw the text, I just knew that it was me. I went straight down to the shop to have it checked and sure enough, I had the winning ticket,” she beamed.
The Cork woman plans to enjoy the celebrations over the bank holiday weekend by celebrating with her family, her housemates and her close friends but her long-term focus is to purchase her dream house in Cork’s city centre.
“I have literally been saving all of my life to buy a house and now this win finally gets me over the line in terms of a mortgage for my dream house in Cork city,” she said.
“I’m renting at the moment but I’ve been looking at houses within my price range over the past couple of months.
“Now however, I can finally buy my ideal home. I’m also going to splash out on a new bike to get me to and from work,” she laughed.
Meanwhile today, the National Lottery also announced that this weekend is extra special for Lotto players across the country.
On top of the truly life-changing €8.5 million Lotto jackpot up for grabs, there is an additional €1 million guaranteed to be won with Saturday’s Lotto Plus Raffle draw.
The current Lotto jackpot has been rolling since Wednesday June 12 and a potential winner of Saturday’s jackpot will become the second biggest Lotto winner of the year after a Dublin syndicate scooped an incredible €10.2 million jackpot last February.
