Gardaí warn Cork town about fake money

Gardaí have issued a warning regarding the circulation of funny money in the Mitchelstown area ahead of the annual festival in the town: Indiependance 2019.

Gardaí in Mitchelstown are warning the business community to be on alert for fake banknotes. These prop notes were passed in town today. Unusually, they're in varying denominations. These €10 and €20 notes are marked "Movie Money" but easy to miss. Be on alert and check notes, especially with a busy weekend approaching.

Ahead of the over event, Mitchelstown Gardaí have warned the business community to be on the alert for fake banknotes after €10 and €20 denominations marked ‘Movie Money’ was circulated in the town on Monday.

A Garda spokesperson said; “Be on the alert and check notes, especially with a busy weekend approaching.”

The notes have also appeared in Cork city. Elizabeth Fort said one of the notes was dropped into their donation box.
