The funeral for three-year-old Avery Greene, who drowned in Spain last Monday will take place in Mallow tomorrow evening.

The body of the young boy has been brought home to Cork ahead of his cremation.

Avery will be lying in repose at O'Connell's Funeral Home, St. James' Avenue, Mallow tomorrow from 3pm with prayers at 7.45pm before being brought to the church for 'Mass of the Angels' at 8.30pm.

The family, his parents Eric and Amanda, along with his siblings, Lucia and Robyn, are having a private cremation and have requested that only family flowers are brought to the funeral. The family asked people to make a donation to the Kevin Bell Foundation charity instead of bringing flowers.

The three-year-old was on holidays with his family when another tourist found him unresponsive in a swimming pool at Cabo Roig in Torrevieja, Alicante on the Costa Blanca at 9am on August 12.

Paramedics were quick to the scene and attempted to assist the boy before he was rushed to Alicante General Hospital.

Unfortunately, despite some positive signs from Avery such as responding to CPR and recovering his vital signs, the three-year-old did not make it and passed away on Tuesday, August 13.

Over €32,000 has been raised through over 600 donations within four days in the aftermath of the tragedy.

The money is to pay for the medical costs incurred by the family while in Spain and also for bringing the body of Avery home to Cork.

Any excess funds have been committed to the Kevin Bell Foundation which assists Irish families who suffer overseas bereavements.
