BUS services on the Ringmahon Road have been suspended until further notice due to anti-social behaviour.

A decision has been taken by Bus Éireann to halt operation of the 202 and 219 buses on the road until “further notice” and services will instead be available via Skehard Road.

No timeline for the reintroduction of services to Ring Mahon Road has been established.

A spokesperson for Bus Éireann said: “Due to anti-social behaviour, Routes 202 (Hollyhill – City Centre – Mahon Point) and 219 (CIT – Douglas – Mahon Point) are currently curtailed and operating via Skehard Road until further notice.”

National Bus and Rail Union general secretary Dermot O'Leary said the union is aware of the situation and is contacting members to discuss the issue.

Mr O'Leary warned last week that services would be hit if anti-social behaviour on public transport "blackspots" continued.

Local Labour representative Peter Horgan said local people will be “majorly inconvenienced” now that schools are back and has called for more Gardaí to be placed in Cork to tackle anti-social behaviour.

“We need more Gardaí, it’s as simple as that. Also people who operate buses and public transport need to feel safe.

“We are trying to encourage people to take public transport but if the drivers aren’t safe, how is the public supposed to feel safe? This is going to result in less people using public transport and that’s a backwards step,” Mr Horgan added.
