Man accused of hurley attack in Cork suburb is banned from entering two housing estates

A 22-year-old man gave undertakings to stay away from another man and from two families as a condition of his bail yesterday.

Richard McCarthy with an address at Spring Lane halting site in Cork appeared at Cork District Court yesterday.

He was charged with causing criminal damage with a hurley at Shannon Lawn in Mayfield and driving without insurance at Ballincollie Road in Cork on June 4, 2019.

Defence solicitor Vicki Buckley said McCarthy was prepared to consent to the bail conditions required by the prosecution.

They included staying away from two families and a named individual and not entering Shannon Lawn or Ballinderry Park in Mayfield.

He was also required to keep a curfew and abstain from intoxicants.

Judge Olann Kelleher adjourned the case for a week but warned the young man that if he had any contact with the named parties or breached any of the other bail conditions he would be at risk of going into custody.
