Green light for development at Mallow Castle

Plans for the development of a number of new amenities at Mallow Castle have been given the green light.

PLANS for the development of a number of new amenities at Mallow Castle have been given the green light.

Councillors this week approved a Part 8 plan for the proposed development of walled gardens to the north of Mallow Castle House. A natural themed, inclusive playground amenity will also be developed along with associated site works and landscaping. Public access will also be improved to the castle grounds as part of the plans.

Local Fianna Fáil representative, Cllr Pat Hayes said the development would be a “fantastic amenity” for both the town of Mallow and for Cork in general.

“It will create jobs both there and will have a spin-off effect on the town, with jobs in retail and other areas,” he said. He pointed out that the facility is similarly sized to Doneraile park, which welcomes between 3-4,000 visitors each year.

Cork County Council purchased Mallow Castle in 2010 and has been advancing plans to develop an integrated park network, landmark amenity and tourist destination for Mallow Castle Park, Mallow Town Park and the Spa House Park improving linkages between these parks and the main town of Mallow itself.
