Breaking: Gardaí fire shot during incident in Mallow

Gardaí discharged a firearm during an incident of suspected criminal drug activity in Mallow tonight.

Gardaí in Mallow are at the scene of the incident that occurred at approximately 8.30pm at Spa, Mitchelstown Road, Mallow when a Garda discharged a single shot from a firearm.

It's understood a man was shot in the shoulder and his injuries are not considered serious.

A garda statement said: "Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances of this incident. Two men have been arrested and are currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Mallow Garda station.

"Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) have been notified and are at the scene of the incident and will conduct their investigation into the discharge of a Garda firearm."
