Cork Lions Club is set to host a special drive-in bingo event this weekend to help raise much-needed funds for local charities.
The event, which will take place at Curraheen Greyhound Stadium on Saturday, will see people come together to play bingo from the comfort of their cars.
Bingo books will be available online and on arrival with the calling of numbers being broadcast locally on a channel which can be listened to on car radios.
Several bingo books will also available on charity's website which can be printed off to allow people at home to join in-however, they say unfortunately there won't be prizes.
While Cork Lions Club supports a number of local and national causes, it has been unable to raise funds in recent months due to the Covid-19 crisis.
It is hoped that funds raised through this event can be used to support local charities and the Christmas Food Appeal.
Funds raised will also be used to support the Lions Hero Shield Project where face shields, manufactured in Ireland, have been donated to front line workers throughout the island of Ireland.
To date over 40,000 face shields have been distributed.
Garry Ryan, President Cork Lions Club, said “We’re delighted to run the drive-in bingo, hopefully it will prove to be a popular and fun event for everyone. Monies raised will allow us to support local Cork charities and our annual Christmas food appeal. Our website is www.corklionsclub.ie. All monies raised locally stay local. We would like to thank the Irish Greyhound Board for allowing us to hold the event in their carpark.”
The Cork Lions Club drive-in bingo event takes place in the car park of Curraheen Greyhound Stadium at 3.30 pm on Saturday, July 25th.
Gates will open at 2.30 pm and car spaces are limited.
Cork Lions Club will also be taking the opportunity to collect old glasses this weekend as part of their Recycle for Sight Campaign.
This project recycles old spectacles that are cleaned, graded, and distributed at eye clinics in countries where they are needed.
They are appealing to the public to clean out their old glasses from drawers and bring them along to the bingo on Saturday.
A donation point will be available in the car park.
