Gardaí investigating fire at barbershop on northside of Cork city

A Blackpool premises has been damaged by fire overnight with a Garda investigation launched.

Barbershop, House of Handsome, on Dublin Street, in Blackpool went up in a blaze on Tuesday morning.

The alarm was raised around 4.45am and three units from Cork City Fire Brigade tended to the fire which was brought under control in just under an hour.

This fire is the second hair salon in the Blackpool area to have a fire incident in the past 12 days and on Friday 18 September, a hair salon called 3 Degrees, located 50 metres from House of Handsome, was set alight in an arson attack in the early hours of the morning.

Gardaí are investigating this incident which has left the salon owners ‘heartbroken’.

Speaking to The Echo, Cork City Fire Brigade Third Officer Ger Ryan said the fire service left Tuesday’s fire at the Barber shop with the Gardai for a technical examination.

Mr Ryan said the services are keeping an open mind in relation to the cause of the second fire and assessing all possibilities.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fire at a barber shop on Red Forge Road, Co. Cork in the early hours of Tuesday, 29th September 2020. The scene is currently being preserved for technical examination. Enquiries are ongoing."
