A Cork woman has been proposed to by her boyfriend who is currently on lockdown in Abu Dhabi.

Proof that love conquers all even during a global pandemic was shown by Bobby Murphy whose girlfriend Nessa Maloney is home in Haulbowline, Co Cork.

Not knowing when he would get to see his girlfriend again, Mr Murphy decided he was going to pop the question from afar.

Ms Maloney, who is a Lieutenant Commander in the Irish Naval Service, was proposed to during the family’s weekly table quiz held on Zoom.

Mr Murphy included the moment he was going to ask her to be his wife in the picture round of the quiz.

He slotted in an additional image of an engagement ring into the end of the picture round and asked her to marry him virtually, from 6,000km away in the United Arabs capital.

Speaking to RTÉ, Ms Maloney said: “So I got proposed to over Zoom with all my family present. It was done during the family table quiz and I’m very, very happy.

“It was lovely to have the family there and you could see everyone was really excited as are extended family and friends the news has spread,” she said.
