Rally for peace to take place outside City Hall tomorrow
A Rally for Peace to celebrate "diversity, inclusiveness and solidarity" will take place outside City Hall tomorrow afternoon.

A RALLY for peace is to take place in Cork tomorrow afternoon, organised by a number of left political and community activists from across the city and county.

The collective group, known as Cork Rebels for Peace, are taking to the streets of Cork to celebrate "diversity, inclusiveness and solidarity".

The event is a direct response to radical far right groups espousing anti-LGBTQ+, anti-choice and racist ideologies.

The counter-protest was organised when the group heard about a 'Free Speech' rally also taking tomorrow, against Fine Gael's push for tighter legislation on hate speech.

Cork Rebels for Peace member, Kathy D'Arcy told The Echo that the Rally for Peace is an attempt to "come together to show the far right that Cork city will not succumb to intolerance."

"We are one people, one human race, one vibrant unified city who's people are known throughout the world for their kindness, friendliness, good humour and inclusiveness."

"The Rally for Peace is an attempt to stand up to the bullies and to highlight to vulnerable groups that racist views are not held by everyone in Cork and they are certainly not welcome here," Kathy continued.

The rally will feature speakers from many walks of Cork life, as well as singing, music, banner-making and other activities.

People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend the event for however long they can from 1-3pm.

"Vulnerable groups need our support in standing up to these hateful groups.

"There are more of us than there are of the bullies," Kathy said.
