Fermoy to host group from French twin town
The photograph entitled, The Hounds, by Catherine Sheehan will form part of an exhibition in Fermoy this week.

AN exhibition of photographs will form the centrepiece of a visit by representatives from the French town of Ploemeur to Fermoy this week.

Fermoy is hosting 40 visitors from its Breton twin town and one of the highlights of the week’s events is an exhibition of photographs taken by camera club enthusiasts in both towns. This can be viewed in the Fermoy Library from today until Saturday.

Fermoy Camera Club was founded in 2010 and some came to the attention of its Breton counterpart.

Last year, members of the club travelled with the twinning association to Ploemeur to participate in a joint photographic exhibition.

Now, the French side has arrived in the north Cork town to compete for the ‘Blackwater Perpetual Cup’ which will be decided by a combination of public and expert votes.

Since contacts between Fermoy and the French town began in 1982, their twinning has been considered on both sides as one of the most successful to have been formed between Ireland and France.

There is a strong emphasis on activities which enable Irish and Bretons alike to get a real insight into their respective cultures and way of life.

Each year has a focus on particular themes: student and family, work experience, cookery, and local government have all featured on past trips.
