Four successful organ transplants have been carried out following the death of Aisling O’Connor, who died following a kayak incident on the river Caragh in Kerry, at the weekend.

Aisling, who was 21, got into trouble while out kayaking with her college club, on a weekend trip.

The young student, who was originally from Skibbereen, had been living in Donegal for many years and was studying at the University of Limerick.

This morning, Aisling’s father David, contacted The Opinion Line on 96fm to confirm that four successful organ transplants had been carried out with Aisling’s organs.

Mr O’Connor said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with those individuals this morning in wishing them a full and speedy recovery and onward healthy and happy lives.

“The gift of life we all possess through organ donation is something very real and tangible. Just ask those four individuals. No greater tribute can be paid to Aisling’s memory than to follow her example.”
