Cork Airport on course for four years of continuous growth

Cork Airport has experienced the most growth so far in 2019 and is also the most punctual airport in Ireland.

The latest figures show Cork Airport is still the fastest growing airport in the country and the second busiest. In the first quarter of the year, Cork welcomed 475,095 passengers, up 10.7% compared to last year.

With no signs of slowing down, Cork Airport predicts that approximately 2.6 million people will have travelled through the airport by the end of 2019. This would be an 8% increase from the previous year.

Along with an increase in growth, Cork has been marked as Ireland’s most punctual airport, with 80.2% of flights arriving and departing on time.

Managing Director at Cork Airport Niall MacCarthy said: “We are well into our fourth consecutive year of growth and have enjoyed a strong first quarter which is continuing well into the second quarter as we enjoy a very busy summer season ahead at Cork Airport.

He continued: “Not only are we Ireland’s fastest growing airport this year, but we are also Ireland’s most punctual which means there is always a better chance your flight will depart and arrive on time at Cork Airport.” 

Cork is set for a busy summer after adding eight new routes, which includes Madrid, Naples, Milan, both Reus and Girona airports in Barcelona, Carcassone and Bordeaux in France and Dubrovnik in Croatia.

Speaking about a busy summer season ahead, Mr MacCarthy said: “All our seasonal routes are now fully operational with over 50 routes on offer to destinations across Europe and the UK, along with multiple daily long-haul connectivities through Europe’s major European hub airports.”
