TV Sport: An armchair guide to Rebels’ date with fate

Tim O’Mahony celebrates scoring a Cork goal in the semi-final against Dublin - fans who don’t have tickets for Croke Park tomorrow will be glued to the TV

For a county that revels in its reputation and tradition as one of the hurling strongholds of Ireland, the last 20 years have been miserable for Cork.

It was a mammoth 7,251 days ago when the Rebels last won a hurling All-Ireland, and since 2005, we have lost in five finals at Croke Park - some of them in the most agonising of close-run circumstances.

Cork are back at HQ again tomorrow and, whisper it for fear of rousing the sporting gods, there is a hope and sense that this could be our year.

The Rebels will start as strong favourites against old foe Tipperary in the All-Ireland hurling final, having swept all before them in the League and Munster Championship.

The scramble for tickets for the match has been epic, but those not lucky enough to have one will be glued to the TV tomorrow.

However, our armchair guide to the All-Ireland final begins with the traditional Up For The Match on RTÉ1 at 9.30pm tonight.

Join hosts Jacqui Hurley and Des Cahill live in the studio as GAA legends, fans, and surprise guests gather to celebrate the big match. The perfect pre-final party, including a visit by Anna Geary to Blarney GAA - the home club of stars Mark Coleman, Shane Barrett and Pádraig Power.

The action then starts in The Sunday Game Live on RTÉ2 tomorrow from 2.15pm, as Joanne Cantwell presents live coverage of Cork v Tipperary, with throw-in at 3.30pm.
