 Clare Doyle, Executive Librarian for Children and Young People’s Services at Cork City Libraries.

TELL us about yourself; Hi! I’m the Executive Librarian for Children and Young People’s Services at Cork City Libraries. I also look after Blarney Library.

Where were you born?

Cork city - St Finbarr’s Hospital.

Where do you live?

Douglas, Cork.

Family?

Husband Brian, sons Matthew, and Adam.

Best friend?

Charlotte, a pal for many years.

Earliest childhood memory?

Outside, with Prince, our Golden Cocker.

Person you most admire?

There are a few! In no order, Frances Fitzgerald, MEP, Cllr Mary Rose Desmond, My mum Pat, and aunts Anne and Maura.

Where was your most memorable holiday?

A trip to Cyprus – a motorbike ride to the Akamas Peninsula comes to mind!

Favourite TV programme?

The Diplomat.

Favourite radio show?

The John Creedon Show.

Your signature dish if cooking?

Sunday Roast with all the trimmings.

Favourite restaurant?

Da Mirco Osteria, Bridge Street. Cork.

Last book you read?

Girl, Woman, Other, by Bernardine Evaristo.

Best book you read?

The Big Wind, by Beatrice Coogan – it’s an epic!

Last album/CD/download you bought?

Swing Fever, by Jools Holland and Rod Stewart.

Favourite song?

After All, by The Frank and Walters.

One person you would like to see in concert?

Dave Grohl.

Do you have a pet?

Hunter, a Labrador Retriever.

Morning person or night owl?

Early bird.

Your proudest moment?

I have two – the arrival of my kids!

Spendthrift or saver?

A healthy balance of both.

Name one thing you would improve in your area in which you live?

I would add street lighting to the entrance of Garryduff Woods - it’s a great spot!

What makes you happy?

Time with friends and family; time spent outdoors.

How would you like to be remembered?

As fair and inclusive.

What else are you up to at the moment?

Preparing for Cruinniu na nÓg, Saturday, June 15, 2024. There are events across Cork City Libraries, be sure to check them out!

Organised by Cork City Council, more than 40 free events for young people will take place in Cork for Cruinniú na nÓg.

A range of arts, crafts, story, and play experiences for young children will take place in libraries across the city and the City Library will host a Teen Film Poetry Showcase in collaboration with poet/poetry filmmaker Colm Scully. See www.corkcity.ie/cnn for details and times of all events.
