PARTY TIME: Anna Geary hosts NYE Countdown on RTÉ1 on New Year's Eve at 11.45pm

IF you’re planning to stay in on New Year’s Eve, who will you usher in 2024 with on TV? Well, you can start with the genial Patrick Kielty, as he presents a special edition of The Late Late Show on RTÉ1 at 10.15pm.

Expect a star-studded guest list with plenty of surprises. Patrick then hands over to Cork woman Anna Geary at Dublin Castle for NYE Countdown at 11.45pm - a concert featuring Picture This.

Or perhaps another Cork host with the most will take your fancy?

The Graham Norton New Year’s Eve Show is at 10.25pm on BBC1, and Graham meets Hollywood stars Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo, who are appearing together in black comedy Poor Things. Also, Claudia Winkleman chats about the return of The Traitors, while chef Nadiya Hussain promotes her new book.

Plus, comedian Rob Brydon chats about his new tour A Night Of Songs And Laughter, and Ezra Collective perform Victory Dance.

At 11.30pm, Graham hands the baton for Rick Astley Rocks New Year’s Eve. Not only did the 1980s star play a triumphant set at Glastonbury last summer, mixing his own hit with covers including Harry Styles’ As It Was, he also teamed up with the Blossoms for a ‘secret’ performance of Smiths’ songs.

If you wanted further proof 2023 was Rick’s year, the BBC have chosen him to see it out in style with a concert from London’s iconic Roundhouse.

He’ll be ringing in the New Year with the help of some special guests - and although this was the year he proved there was more to him than Never Gonna Give You Up, there will be some disappointed viewers if it doesn’t get an airing.

Or check out BBC2 at 11,30pm on New Year’s Eve for Jools’ Annual Hootenanny, featuring Rod Stewart, Joss Stone, Olivia Dean, Paul Jones, PP Arnold, Raye, and Sugababes.

Over on TG4 at 11.30pm, Fáilte 2024 has the best of Irish traditional music to see in a new year.
