Showing Cork kids that fitness can be lots of fun

I am also a Montessori teaching assistant and special needs assistant.
I am currently working part-time in a gym, subbing as an SNA and carrying out my fun fitness classes for kids known as ‘Molly’s Mini Movers’.
I absolutely love working with kids and I am also passionate about fitness so I have combined them both! These classes aim to teach kids the FUNdamentals of fitness, balance, co-ordination, and most importantly to have fun!
I am currently running classes in Carrigaline and Crosshaven with age- appropriate classes ranging from three to eight years, while also bringing Molly’s Mini Movers to Montessori schools and hopefully to primary settings in the future!
I was born and raised in Co. Cork.
I am currently living in Crosshaven.
I have four siblings under the age of 11, three of whom live in America.
I am lucky enough to have dual citizenship, therefore I can visit in Newport, Rhode Island.
I have a lot of great childhood memories from spending summers in Barelycove, West Cork.
If we weren’t camping we were in a caravan surrounded by beaches, and even to this day, we still take a visit every summer! Jumping off the pier in Crookhaven is still a tradition in the family.
Bali, Indonesia. I went there last summer for three weeks. Myself and two friends went with a company called ‘Camp Bali’ who organised a full three week itinerary, accommodation and transports. This itinerary had activities such as Surf Lessons, Sunset Yoga, Island Hopping, Turtle Conservations, trips to tourist spots such as The Monkey Forest and many more.
We got to visit Seminyak, Ubud, Lombok and The Gili Islands, where we learnt all about their culture and got to visit their beautiful temples and waterfalls!
While we were there we got to do a lot of volunteer work, which was a very rewarding experience. This included beach clean-ups, maintaining and cleaning the turtle sanctuary’s and also teaching English at the Community Learning Centres to the children in the schools. We were there to make a positive impact, particularly in Bali’s youth education as it is vital for their future development. This trip was definitely one to remember and I am very grateful that I got to experience it all!

I rarely watch TV as Netflix has taken over these days, but I must admit I will always find the time to catch up on Home and Away and Neighbours.
Favourite radio show?
Red FM would be the first thing that comes on in the car!
I’d better start learning how to perfect my mother’s Spagetti Bolonaise!
BunnyConnellans Restaurant, not only for the food but also for the fantastic view which is right on our doorstep!
I have never been a big reader as I find it hard to just sit there and read! I get bored quiet easily and even though I know it’s not, I often feel like it is ‘wasting time’, that I could be doing something else, which is why I love listening to podcasts! I could be getting some cardio in while listening to an informative podcast, which I find a lot more productive.
I enjoy listening to a variety of audiobooks, one in particular, which is a counterintuitive approach to living a good life by Mark Manson. I also listen to Brian Keane podcasts, which I find very motivating, and learn a lot from them about the fitness industry.
Christy Moore.
— Paolo Nutini.
One person you would like to see in concert?
I’ve been to a few big ones such as Beyonce, Rihanna, and Ed Sheeran but I’d love to see Dermot Kennedy!
Bailey, who is a golden retriever, and a rabbit named Ruby!
Definitely a morning person, it’s a struggle to keep my eyes open past my bedtime and I’m always the first to sleep! When setting my alarm I’ve a habit of counting how many hours of sleep I will get!
Coming from someone who was never one to stick with just one college course, or job or place, I have to admit my proudest moment to date is probably figuring out what I want to do now I have launched ‘Molly’s Mini Movers’. I have realised my two passions are working with children to help make a difference while introducing them to fitness at a young age.
I am enjoying being busy as each week varies with work in the gym and with school, I am really focusing on growing ‘Mollys Mini Movers, particularly for my summer camps!
Took me long enough but I have finally become a saver!
The youth of today is growing up in a society orientated by social media, which can sometimes have a negative impact on the younger generation and their mental health. Therefore, I would like to see schools in my local area highlight the importance of mental health and to spread awareness by having regular seminars or discussions throughout the school year. I think that schools should make mental health and well-being a priority for their pupils as it is one of the best places to support and protect the mental health and wellbeing of young children.
