Susan Boyle cheers on Scotland ahead of first World Cup game: ‘You can do this’

Susan Boyle has shared a message of support for the Scotland men’s national football team ahead of their first game at the World Cup: “You can do this.”

The Scottish singer rose to fame after auditioning for ITV talent show Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) in 2009, where she stunned the audience with her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream, from the musical Les Miserables.

In a video shared on Saturday, Boyle wore a fur coat before proudly revealing the national football team shirt and said: “No Scotland no party.”

The BGT star captioned the video: “I had a dream! Scotland has a dream!

“You can do this!”

The video comes ahead of the team’s first World Cup match in 28 years.

First Minister John Swinney, actor Gerard Butler and singer Clare Grogan are among famous figures who have made the trip to Boston to see the team’s first fixture against Haiti on Saturday at 9pm local time – 2am IST.

Boyle’s message comes weeks after she released a surprise song as part of a new musical collaboration with the ice cream brand Cornetto.

The dance remix to the brand’s popular Just One Cornetto jingle by Count Giovanni di Regina, took a notable change in direction from her usual rich, operatic sound, opting for a pulsing club beat instead.

The announcement was made days after she teased her comeback with photos on social media showing her glamorous new look – a sleek blonde bob, sunglasses and a long, brown fur coat.

The Blackburn, West Lothian-born 65-year-old was runner-up in BGT and since then has had three UK number one albums and one Top 10 single, with two Grammy Award nominations to her name.

Last year the singer made headlines after being praised by Hollywood star Timothee Chalamet as one of his top five Britons, naming her alongside Sir David Beckham and Lady Victoria Beckham.
