Cork City relegated after Shelbourne defeat

Cork City were condemned to a third Premier Division relegation in six seasons following a 2-1 defeat to Shelbourne on Monday night.

The Leesiders lost 2-1 to Shelbourne at Turner's Cross, where Jack Henry Francis netted a late winner for the visitors.

Only 1,611 supporters turned out for the game, with a very different mood to Cork's surprise 3-0 victory over St Patrick's Athletic in the FAI Cup semi-final on October 3rd. 

Daniel Kelly had put Shelbourne in front after only three minutes, as Cork struggled to get into the game.

Sean Maguire scored an equaliser in the 79th minute, but Shelbourne's later winner was deserved.

The result moves Shelbourne up to third with three league games to go.

In the First Division, Finn Harps and Kerry played out a 1-1 draw in Ballybofey.
