Aoife O'Rourke has clinched gold at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool today.

The Roscommon boxer beat Turkey's Busra Isildar by unanimous decision in the 75kg final.

The 28-year-old's intensity proved too much for Isilder over the course of the fight.

It rounds off Ireland's best haul at world level since 2015, with Grainne Walsh and Patsy Joyce both landing bronze medals.

Paying tribute to O'Rourke's triumph, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said: "Congratulations Aoife O’Rourke on winning World Championship gold!

"A dominant display. You continue to represent Ireland in the ring with distinction."
