Saturday sport: Slaughtneil reach Ulster final, England lose to South Africa

Drogheda United have maintained their SSE Airtricity League Premier Division status this afternoon.

The FAI Cup winners defeated Bray Wanderers in a promotion-relegation play-off at Tallaght Stadium.

Drogheda won 3-1 thanks to goals from James Bolger and two from Frantz Pierrot.

Conor Coventry will join the Republic of Ireland senior squad ahead of tomorrow's game against England.

The former under 21 captain comes in for the suspended Jason Knight who misses the game after picking up a yellow card in the win over Finland.

The Charlton man has been named in previous squads but has yet to be capped at senior level.

Rugby

The November internationals continue this evening.

England have suffered a third straight defeat losing by 29-points-to-20 to world champions South Africa.

Steve Borthwick's side have been beaten in their last five matches ahead of next Sunday's clash with Japan.

Scotland smashed an up-and-coming Portugal side 59-21 at Murrayfield.

Ireland's next opponents Fiji picked up a 33-19 victory away to Spain.

There's a mouthwatering clash in Paris this evening, with France trailing New Zealand 14-10 in the first half.

Energia All-Ireland League

It was another exciting afternoon in the Energia All-Ireland League this afternoon.

Division 1A table-toppers Ballynahinch kept up their good form with a 19-14 victory over UCD.

Defending champions Cork Con and St. Mary's played out a 27 all draw at Temple Hill.

Lansdowne recorded a 26-17 victory over Clontarf on the Aviva back pitch,

Terenure College got past Garryowen 42-26 in Lakelands,

Young Munster fell to a 31-24 loss to the City of Armagh 24-19.

Gaelic games

Scotstown progressed to the semi finals of the Ulster Club Senior Football Championship this evening.

The Monaghan champions got the better of Fermanagh's Erne Gaels by 16 points to 9 earlier.

In the Ulster hurling semi-final this evening, Derry kingpins Slaughtneil defeated Antrim's Ruairí Óg Cushendall 1-36 to 3-24 after extra-time.

Neil McManus scored a goal with the final puck of normal time to leave it level 3-21 to 1-27 at the full-time whistle.

Boxing

Katie Taylor successfully defended her women's super-lightweight titles overnight.

The Bray boxer beat Amanda Serrano by unanimous decision in a controversial bout in Arlington, Texas.

The main event saw former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson lose by unanimous decision to YouTuber Jake Paul.

Golf

Rory McIlroy will take a share of the lead into the final round of golf's DP World Tour Championship on Sunday.

The World Number Three is on 12-under par along with Frenchman Antoine Rozner and Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard.

England's Tyrrell Hatton is three shots off the pace on 9-under, with Shane Lowry, Matt Wallace, and Robert MacIntyre a further two strokes back.
