Inflation rises to 3.4% as energy prices increase

Consumer price inflation is estimated to have risen by 3.4 per cent in the 12 months up to August, figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show.

Inflation also increased by 0.6 per cent from July.

Energy prices rose by 4.3 per cent in the last month, and by 11.8 per cent in the last year.

Food prices dropped by 0.2 per cent in the last month, but increased by 0.1 per cent in the last year.

This compares with EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices HICP inflation of 3.1 per cent in Ireland in the 12 months to July 2026 and an annual increase of 2.9 per cent in the HICP for the Eurozone in the same period.

The HICP excluding energy and unprocessed food prices is estimated to have increased by 2.6 per cent since August 2025.
