Dublin Airport sees busiest month in history with 3.8 million passengers

More than 3.8 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in July, up 2.3 per cent on the same month last year as the busy summer travel season continued.

A total of 3,839,635 passengers travelled during the month, marking the 16th consecutive month of passenger growth. July was also the busiest month in Dublin Airport’s history.

Through the first seven months of 2026, just under 22 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport, representing an increase of +5.2 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Every day in July saw more than 100,000 passengers travelling through the airport, highlighting the sustained demand to fly in and out of Ireland throughout the peak summer season. The busiest day of the month was Sunday, July 12th, with 133,472 passengers.

Despite the high passenger volumes, they said operations continued to run smoothly throughout the month, with 89 per cent of departing passengers clearing security screening in 15 minutes or less, while 93 per cent passed through security in under 20 minutes.

July’s performance reflected the peak summer holiday season, with schools closed for the summer and large numbers of families travelling overseas.

The airport also welcomed significant numbers of inbound tourists choosing Ireland for their summer holidays.

The closing stages of the FIFA World Cup also drove demand from passengers from across the UK and Europe, who availed of Dublin Airport’s US Preclearance facilities and extensive US route network to connect to North America.

July also saw the start of Ireland’s six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with Dublin Airport playing an important role as the first point of welcome for many international delegations visiting Ireland from across Europe.

Gary McLean, managing director of Dublin Airport, said: “The summer holiday season is now in full swing, with almost four million passengers travelling through Dublin Airport last month as families made the most of the school holidays and visitors from around the world came to experience our unique Irish hospitality.

“On average, around 123,000 passengers walked through our doors every day of July. That’s the equivalent of one and a half times the capacity of Croke Park on All-Ireland final day passing through the airport in just one day, every day last month. This high level of traffic is now the norm during the peak summer period.

“Despite this, we continued to deliver an excellent operational performance, with 93 per cent of departing passengers passing through security in under 20 minutes."

McLean said it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Dublin Airport teams, with thousands of people working 24/7 across the airport campus to deliver a smooth experience for the almost four million passengers who travelled in July.
