Three teenagers were injured after a car drove towards a number of people on Saturday night in Skerries, Co Dublin.

At approximately 9.30 pm, a large number of youths gathered and a fight broke out. During the course of the incident, a car drove into a number of people.

Three teenagers, two females and one male, were taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.

Fianna Fáil Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee said she was a family friend of one of the young women injured in the incident.

In a statement, she said: “I am deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific incident that took place on Harbour Road, Skerries, yesterday evening.

“There is absolutely no place for this kind of violence in our community.

“My thoughts are with her, the others injured, and all of their families.

“Thankfully, she is now home from hospital. I wish each of them a full and speedy recovery.”

Clifford-Lee said “tensions have been building” in the area following “a significant increase in the number of young people” visiting Skerries.

She said she had spoken to Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan about the incident and asked for additional garda resources to be deployed “as soon as possible”.
