A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of teenager Marian Beattie in 1973.

The 18-year-old’s body was found at the bottom of a quarry close to Aughnacloy on Saturday March 31st 1973.

She had attended a charity dance nearby on the previous night.

A fresh appeal for information had been made in March.

On Thursday, a police spokesperson said detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Legacy Investigation Branch arrested a man in connection with the murder.

“The suspect, who is aged in his 70s, was arrested this morning and remains in custody at present,” they said.
