Tens of thousands of people have taken part in the annual Dublin Pride parade.

The event, hailed by organisers as the biggest celebration of diversity and inclusion on the island of Ireland, started on O’Connell Street and travelled through the Irish capital’s centre to Merrion Square on Saturday afternoon.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin was among the political leaders who joined the parade and met a number of participants.

He told RTÉ that it was a “wonderful occasion and celebration” for people participating and for the wider community.

In a statement, the Government of Ireland reiterated its commitment to “advancing equality, protecting rights and improving the quality of life for LGBTIQ+ people across Ireland”.

The parade was part of a wider Pride Festival of events, which included entertainment and music.
