A man has died after being struck by a Luas tram on Monday evening.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place in Marlborough Street shortly after 7pm.

The man, a pedestrian aged in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries have been reported.

The local coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.

Traffic diversions were in place on Monday night to facilitate an examination of the scene.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident to come forward, including those with camera footage.
