The first Gaelic Football video game in almost two decades has been released by Belfast studio Buck Eejit Games.

Gaelic Football Laochra was released today, May 28th for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, bringing Ireland's ancient game to a new generation.

The game's cover star is Aidan Forker, an All-Ireland-winning captain with Armagh back in 2024.

The last Gaelic Football game was Gaelic Games: Football 2, which was released on PlayStation 2 back in 2007 by Australian studio, Transmission Games.

The description of the game says: "Feel the intensity of Gaelic Football Laochra! From heated county showdowns to the pinnacle of the Irish Championship, every game delivers authentic gameplay, strategic depth, and electrifying action.

"Every clash is a test of skill, and every triumph brings you closer to glory."

The game boasts responsive, skill-based gameplay built around the speed and intensity of the sport, intelligent AI movement designed to create more authentic player positioning and match flow.

There is a career mode, which allows players to guide their chosen team across multiple seasons.

There are tournaments and quick matches for solo play or local competition, along with local multiplayer, allowing friends to battle it out for bragging rights.

The game also includes the latest ruleset changes, reflecting the evolving modern game.

One of the biggest parts of the game is the extensive creation suite, which allows players to create custom players, kits, and teams.

Speaking with BreakingNews.ie, back in 2023, developer Peadar McMahon said: "There are over 2,000 clubs in Ireland, so getting all of their approval would have been a logistical nightmare.

"We hope to have the option where you can create your local team and share it online for others to download as well ."

Commentary will be provided by Midwest Radio presenter Michael D McAndrew.
