Gardaí have asked the public not to share footage of a serious assault which led to the death of a man in north west Dublin.

Alex Coughlan died in hospital on Wednesday, following the attack which took place in Blanchardstown on Sunday.

Two teenage boys were charged in connection with the incident and appeared before the courts on Wednesday.

In a statement on Friday, An Garda Síochána said: “Out of respect for the deceased and his family and as this matter is before the courts, we are asking members of the public not to share this footage on social media platforms or messaging apps.”

They have also asked for anyone who travelled along Mill Lane between 4pm and 5pm on Sunday to contact them.

A crowdfunding page set up to support the 37-year-old’s family has received over 20,000 euro in donations.

The page describes how, in ”an incredible final act of kindness and generosity”, Coughlan’s organs were donated which “reflects the caring and selfless person he was”.
