A man in his 30s has died and a man in his 60s has been arrested following an incident at a house in Artane, Dublin 5, early on Saturday.

Shortly after 12.30am, gardaí and emergency services responded to a call at a residence on Brookwood Heights, Artane.

A man in his 30s was treated at the scene and was pronounced dead a short time later.

A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in North Dublin.

The body of the man in his 30s remains at the residence which is preserved for technical examination.

The coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and a postmortem will be arranged.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed, a garda family liaison officer assigned, and an incident room established at Clontarf Garda Station.

The postmortem will assist gardaí in determining the course of the investigation.

Investigations are ongoing, a garda statement said.
