A young mother who was found dead at her home in Carrick on Suir in Co Tipperary has been named locally.

Gardaí believe Polish national Monika Kubasiewicz passed away during a medical crisis linked to her pregnancy in the bathroom of her new home on Blackthorn Close, Greenhill Village, Carrick on Suir, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Ms Kubasiewicz, aged in her 30s, was discovered in Carrick-on-Suir alongside the infant.

It is understood that the deaths are believed to have occurred during childbirth. Investigating gardaí are treating the incident as a medical tragedy. It is not believed that there were healthcare professionals at the home at the time.

Locals said that Ms Kubasiewicz and her partner had two other children and used to run a shop in Prior Place in Clonmel near the train station.

She was originally from the city of Swiebodzice in South-western Poland, but had lived in Ireland for a number of years.

In a statement, gardaí said "The focus of the Garda investigation at this time concerns the preparation of a file for the Coroner,” a Garda spokesperson said. A family liaison officer has been appointed to assist the family of the deceased.

"A family liaison officer has been appointed to assist the family of the deceased. Prayers are being offered for the deceased and their loved ones at Masses in Carrick-on-Suir this weekend.

"Gardaí have been conducting their investigation with the utmost sensitivity, amid tragic circumstances understood to have surrounded the deaths.

A councillor in the town also issued an appeal on social media, urging people not to speculate on the details of the incident.

In a post on Facebook, Sinn Féin's David Dunne said ‘’There has been a tragedy in Carrick on Suir. I would ask people not to speculate on what happened and not to share anything they are hearing or have been sent to them’’.
